Nomen is known for its earthquakes, especially in the westernmost parts of the country. Usually the roughest earthquakes happen between May and August, but this year there was an exceptionally strong earthquake, way later than usual.

A COMPLETE SURPRISE
On Monday October 18th , the earthquake started shaking Partada, the region that is located in the far west of Nomen. With a magnitude of 7.2 the earthquake definitely caused some serious damage. It came as a complete surprise because there are rarely ever strong earthquakes this late in the year. Luckily there were no reported deaths and all missing people have been found. 12 people are still in critical condition but nobody is in lethal danger anymore.
SCIENTISTS HAVE NO EXPLANATION
“We have never seen this before, no records indicate that an earthquake of this magnitude has ever hit us later than August” says Dr. Eva Brook. “We will continue to monitor the situation in Partada and try and find an answer as to why this heavy hitting earthquake happened so late” she continues. Dr. Brook finished her statement by saying that we have to be very wary for more exceptions like this in the future.
COMPLETE CONFUSION
The inhabitants of Partada say they were taken by surprise as well. The time between the first signs of an earthquake and the hardest shakes was a matter of minutes. Luckily the people living there are well-trained and started taking measures in a timely manner, minimalizing the damage. The mayor of Partada, Liv Rouge, decided that all children from eight years old on will get a yearly workshop about what to do in case of a surprise earthquake.
