The Victoria Highway in the direction of the Emiliana region had to be closed off for almost 9 hours on Sunday, after 5 vehicles collided. One of the drivers had reportedly fallen asleep behind the wheel which resulted in the crash. Luckily all people involved got away with non-fatal injuries.
Not the first time
The crash last Sunday, which was caused by a sleeping driver, resulted in the Victoria Highway being closed for multiple hours. It’s the third time this week that the highway had to be closed due to a major accident. Luckily there have been no accidents with fatal injuries so far.
What exactly happened
We talked to the driver in question and she had the following to say: “What happened is of course inexcusable, I have been working extra hours all week and decided to drive home even though I felt very tired. I will do better in the future.” An eye-witness said the vehicle abruptly pulled into the left lane, crashing into a vehicle that was already driving there. Consequently, three cars driving behind ended up crashing into the 2 vehicles.
Victoria and Emiliana said they will work together to prevent crashes like this from happening in the future. Since there were no casualties, the driver was not persecuted. She will however have to follow a 12-hour course about safe driving and crash prevention.
